The Law

Mormon view: Must try to be perfect. Must have faith and follow laws, ordinances & principals to become righteouse before God. Must have faith and live righteously to be righteous before God. You are made righteouse by faith plus following the law.

Christian view: Once you put true faith in Christ you are made righteous in Christ. You are no longer bound by the law. There is now righteousness without the law (Rom.3:21). The law is the old covenant and it could never perfectly cleanse (Heb.10:1). Now we have a new covenant where God puts his law in our hearts & writes them in our minds (Heb.10:16), and we uphold that law (Rom.3:31). God no longer remembers our sins. We will have boldness to enter into the holiest BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS (Heb.10:17-19). Nobody is justified by the law, the law is to bring forth knowledge of sin (Rom.3:20).

In this video I am going over:
(James2:10)10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
AND
(Matthew7:21-23)21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

  1. Jennifer, you left out a VERY key part of the Mormon religion's belief on the law and righteousness....the Atonement of Jesus Christ. People are not perfect. We all make mistakes and we all sin. The Mormons believe that it is through faith, obedience, and repentance through the Atonement of Jesus Christ that we become righteous.

  2. Hey Stephanie, look again. It says, made righteous by FAITH and following the law. With all do respect Stephanie, if you are being honest, you know that in mormonism, in order to be righteous and be with God in the celestial kingdom you have to go to the temple and do your ordinances and in order to go to the temple, you need a temple recommend. In order to get that temple reccomend your bishop has to deem you worthy in your interview when he askes you questions about your worthiness. He has to make sure that you: Tithe (10%), obey the sabath day & the word of wisdom, attend meetings regularly, believe Joseph Smith restored the gospel. amoung other questions that he might ask. And if he believes you are living a moral enough life then you get your recommend. If this blog offends you then I am sorry, my goal is not to offend anybody. I just want to get the truth out there & the truth is: The ONLY thing that will make you righteous before God is JESUS and Jesus alone! All that other stuff wont do it. It is like filthy rags to him (Isaiah 64:6). As much as I care for you Stephanie, God comes first. And although you might not understand or believe me...I am doing this blog because I love the Lord and because I care so much for you too!

  3. Jennifer, I see that it says "made righteous by faith and following the law." But as I stated before, you left out utilizing the Atonement of Jesus Christ. That is the key part of the Mormon religion's belief of the law and righteousness. Faith is a principle and so is repentance through the Atonement. If you do not understand what this means in the Mormon religion, then you clearly have a limited understanding of the religion.

Have you ever sat in a temple recommend interview? If you have, then you know that the Bishop does not deem you worthy to enter the temple. He does not decide if you are worthy enough to receive your recommend. You do.
If you do not believe the teachings of the Mormon church, that is fine. However, I find it quite prideful that you feel you are in a position to denounce an entire religion. One that you have a limited understanding of. Based on what you have said, my guess is that you have never sat in a temple recommend interview. However, you are sitting here trying to explain what takes place.

You say that you are not trying to offend anyone. I hope that you realize that you are discussing things that people hold sacred and you are discussing things that have to do with people's personal relationship with Jesus Christ. You should be very careful to ensure that you have a complete understanding of what you are trying to explain. If you do not, then you might be better off sharing your testimony and your religion instead of trying to speak for another one.

  4. Stephanie, for a mormon to "utilize the atonment", yes you need faith and repentance. Repent means "to change ones mind". It is a change of heart. When you put faith in Jesus, you have a "change of heart"...you see that you are sinful, you turn to God, you realize that you need Jesus and you put your trust in him and cling to him. As your faith continues so does your repentance.(confirmed with lds missionary). Faith implies repentans. Folowing the law is included in obedience. So, when I say "made righteous by faith & law" that IS utilizing the atonement.

Are you trying to imply that your bishop does not ask you questions about your worthiness in an interview for a temple recommend? Yes, it is true that you choose whether or not to live up to the church's standards, but, ultimately it is up to your interviewer if you get the recommend. If he wants to say no, then he can. So, like it or not, yes he does deem you worthy, or there would be no purpose for the interview.

The fact is, you and I, we dont worship the same God. The God I worship was never a man, he does not have a physical body of flesh and bones. Man will never become a God. The God that I worship is the one and ONLY true God EVER. He is three persons in one being...Jesus is God in the flesh...the holy spirit is God dwelling in us...they are not three seperate beings. That is the God that I worship. What is sacred to some defiles the true God's name. Mormonism keeps people from the true God that I LOVE. It keeps people that I LOVE from the true GOD that I LOVE. I know plenty about the mormon religion & I AM sharing my faith/religion (JESUS). My testimony & much more to come. I am not ashamed of my God. & I am not speaking for another religion...I am sharing TRUTH. If you want to believe the teachings of the mormon church then that is fine, but that does not mean that I have to stop sharing the truth with people. I said it is not my goal to offend anyone, that does not mean that if I offend someone that I will stop spreading the truth. God still comes first!

  5. I guess we just have to agree to disagree

  6. I do agree that we disagree. PLEASE know that I still love you, I really do! I'm just not willing to lie to you and pretend that mormonism is christian. I am also not willing to sit back, without defending christianity, and let the mormon church give people the "milk before the meat" (as the mormons say). That is decietful, and that is called; trying to brainwash people. Lying by omission is still lying. In christianity that is considered wrong. We give them all the truth that they want and let them decide for themselves. I have told the truth about mormonism in this blog. I don't have to lie to show that mormonism is not christian. Stephanie, I want you to know that no matter how much I don't like mormonism...I still like you, I don't look down on you because of your beliefs. No matter how mad mormonism might make me, I am not mad at you. I just have to do what is right.
